Details : Core course in BSc (3970 program) SHE major, elective course in all other majors
  
Description : This course introduces students to safety, health and environmental hazards, such as natural hazards and organisational hazards including physical hazards, chemical hazards, biohazards, ergonomic hazards, psychological stressors and managerial hazards. The course also introduces concepts of safety, health and environmental risk management.
  
Objectives : After completing this Course, students should:
  • understand occupational health concepts and language sufficient to be able to communicate effectively with occupational health and safety professionals about hazards;
  • understand environmental management concepts and language sufficient to be able to communicate effectively with environmental management professionals about hazards;
  • develop an appreciation of the inter-relationships of Safety, Health and Environmental hazards, risks and impacts;
  • analyse issues of safety, health and environment that are of relevance to the student's background or work experience.
