Program Authority: Dr Tony Green The Health and Safety Programs offered by the School of Safety Science are the most comprehensive series of articulated program in Australia. The programs have common components, so changing between the programs, or to the ergonomics program after initial enrolment is generally possible (depending on enrolment requirements and satisfactory progression). Each program operates on a Unit of Credit (UOC) system where students are awarded specified number of UOC on satisfactory completion of each course. A PATHWAY TO POSTGRADUATE STUDIES Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety Non graduates can enter the postgraduate programs via a certificate iv in OHS and a safety based academic skills program. There are no prerequisites and recognition of prior learning is given. GRADUATE PROGRAMS IN HEALTH AND SAFETY AT UNSW Graduate Certificate OHSM These courses consist of the fundamental knowledge and core courses of the Graduate Diploma or a selection of courses from a specialist area. Graduate Certificate in Safety Science This program is the first stage in a fully articulated series of Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma and Master of Science and Technology in Occupational Health and Safety or Master of Safety Science. The program requires 24 UOC and is normally completed in six months of full-time or 12 months part-time study. It is available in person or by distance delivery mode. Graduate Diploma in Safety Science This program may be chosen by students who are not eligible for direct entry to the Masters degree or who do not wish to undertake a project. Master of Science and Technology (OHS) This program is an interdisciplinary program with a less broad base but is ideal for people who wish for a more specialised career in safety and health. The Master of Safety Science is a broad program which includes a major project which is intended for those who wish to extend their knowledge from their original discipline base to enable them to manage multidisciplinary teams. Master of Safety Science This is a study program for students wanting a broad based understanding of safety engineering, occupational health, environmental science, risk management and ergonomics to become safety, health and environmental professionals. The program requires 96 UOC and is normally completed in two years of full-time (or equivalent part-time) study and is available in on campus or off campus learning mode. |
