CHEMICAL WEAPONS AND INDUSTRIAL CHEMICALS

This is a new research area in the toxicology research group. In 2005, all jurisdictions in Australian enacted legislation to control the “security sensitive” chemical ammonium nitrate.

Research in this project is based not on development of chemical weapons, but on identifying chemicals in use as industrial chemicals, which may have properties that are similar to chemical used as weapons (for example, gaseous cyanides or sulphides), and require closer attention in handling and use.
